    Tsunami Work
One of the worst natural disasters that Sri Lanka had experienced in recent times was the tsunami that struck the island on 26th December 2004. Nearly 40,000 lost their lives and approx. 100,000 houses were completely destroyed. We at Margaya were able to contribute in a little way towards the reconstruction and restoring lives back to normalcy. We were able to give out relief assistance for those in camps in the South and North/East of Sri Lanka. 15 temporary houses were built at Ratmalana and Matakkuliya. We are sponsoring 8 families who were affected by the tsunami for 2 years. 48 houses were constructed in the South as well as in Trincomalee. All this was possible due to the generous giving of the German Church, the Korean church, Rope Trust of England and Vision for Asia.
